One Night in Fota Island Resort

Fota Island Resort, Co. Cork

I was lucky enough to spend one night in Fota recently - using the excuse of the Leaving Cert ending to get away for one night’s relaxation.

I have been in Fota many times but I don’t think I ever stayed there - it was such a relaxing overnight - close enough to home that it was a very short commute and no stress about having to pack to much.

I had a treatment booked for late afternoon and was delighted to be able to check in beforehand - a lovely calming room with a balcony which was very much appreciated on a sunny evening.

My room in Fota

I had not visited the spa in many years and was reminded of the sense of calm that comes over you once you pass the spa reception. The whole area is beautifully done with ornate mosaic tiles and a general sense of luxury. As usual, I hadn’t left enough time to use the facilities before my treatment so I was picked up by my therapist and brought to my therapy room. I had The Grounding Massage Ritual which was really nice - from the name, I expected it to be very gentle and relaxing but as it turned out, it was fairly full on. My therapist worked pretty hard on those unrelenting tension knots in my back! I just don’t seem to be able to go for the relaxing option - when I’m asked if I’m ok with pressure, I’m like - absolutely, bring it on. Some day, I might actually experience a gentle, relaxing massage……….

I was able to use the facilities afterwards and availed of the hydro-theraphy pool area with walking river and their outdoor sauna.

Champagne and sunshine

After my relaxing afternoon, I couldn’t have asked for better - a table outside in the sunshine, Simplex crossword (sorry that’s all I’m able for) and a glass of champagne. The beautiful planting around the area just added to it - heaven.

From there I headed to my balcony to get the last of the sun and sip on the Gavi that I had brought 🙊 followed by some TV in bed - the casting was so easy but after trying my 3rd programme on Netflix (is it just me???), I gave up and went to sleep!!

Breakfast was as you would expect - lovely, lots of choice, very clear gluten free options, nicely done. I had a lovely walk down to the golf club and around the grounds, finishing in their oriental garden.

Overall, a really lovely one night escape to relax.
